MIRADOR 70

Urban Rehabilitation
Caracas

2015

Mirador 70 is an urban rehabilitation and citizen participation project, turning uninhabited places into a landmark for the community.

This project took an abandoned pre-existing structure as a starting point and, through community participatory interventions, created a building program design, which included multiple-use space for dance classes, offices, and a nursery, among others. The program was developed with multidisciplinary advice from anthropologists, architects, and artists, becoming an active and useful point of reference for the residents of the area.

The program of the building is distributed in several levels: semi-basement, open plaza, and the viewpoint, a metallic structure with 360º views over the Caracas valley. Materials discarded from other works were largely used for the construction of the building.
